Common Florida Spring Plumbing Emergencies

caution

A Florida spring is like summer everywhere else, and with warmer weather and wetter storms comes plumbing emergencies. Here are the most common plumbing emergencies Floridians experience in spring.

Clogged Toilets

Spring is a great time to have guests over. Kids can invite their friends to play outside and adults can invite their friends over for a nice meal. But having more people around also means your toilet gets more use.

Heavy or improper use of the toilet can easily lead to clogs. Not only are these unpleasant to deal with, but they can also lead to far more serious issues down the line.

What starts as the water being a bit too high in the toilet can quickly progress to your entire bathroom floor being covered with water. Let that happen enough times and it can do permanent damage to the very foundation of your home.

Don't just assume a clogged toilet will fix itself given enough time. Call in a plumbing professional to look at it.

Sprinkler and Lawn Plumbing Issues

Spring is the season where you really pick up the lawn maintenance work, and that can bring issues as well.

For example, if you aren't careful, you can damage the sprinkler with your lawnmower.A broken sprinkler head or nicked hose can leak causing you to use up way more water than you're intending to, which is bad for both your yard and your wallet.

Sewer Line Backups

All of the rain you get in spring can lead to backed-up sewer lines. It's not a pleasant thought and it's an even less pleasant reality.

The first signs that your sewer line is backed up are often found in the toilets and sinks. They will be slow to drain and might make a gurgling sound as they do.

Eventually, if things get bad enough, your wastewater will have nowhere to go - except back where it came from.Don't hesitate to contact a plumber if you're having any issues at all with toilets or bathtubs. Doing so could save you from dealing with a really expensive mess.

Clogged Disposals

Pleasant, warm weather can have its drawbacks too-at least as far as your plumbing is concerned. You should make sure that you're taking care of your garbage disposal.

Clean it regularly with a mixture of baking soda and white vinegar. Keep in mind that it was also never meant to take on bulky, hard items. Anything like that should be thrown in the trash.

Signs of a damaged disposal including odd noises when in use, bad smells coming from your sink, and water not draining in your sink properly. If you're dealing with any of this, then get your disposal checked out and fixed as soon as you can.

Major Leaks

There's nothing like heavy wind and rainto expose - and often exacerbate - any leaks you already have. It's easy to miss leaks during the fall and winter when it's raining less. But one heavy rainstorm during the spring is all it takes to show you the full extent of the issue.

If you notice any signs of leakage, no matter how minor, in the home, call someone to come check it out. Better now than when it's progressed to a much more serious - and expensive - leak.
